Oman launches ‘Sustainable Harvest’ solar initiative to reduce electricity costs for farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, in cooperation with Nafath Renewable Energy Company and the Development Bank, has launched the ‘Solar Energy – Sustainable Harvest’ initiative to support the use of renewable energy on farms.

MUSCAT – The programme aims to support the integration of solar energy systems on farms across the Sultanate of Oman, reducing operational costs and promoting the use of renewable energy in agriculture.
The initiative encourages farmers and agricultural investors to adopt solar energy as a reliable and eco-friendly alternative, helping to lower electricity expenses and support national food security efforts.

Conditions for Providing the Services

  • The land must be registered as agricultural land (ownership or valid usufruct contract) and have an official agricultural meter, along with the ownership and survey drawing.
  • The applicant must have a valid agricultural holding and be registered with the Agricultural Association.
  • A minimum of 100 square meters of open space, free of shade, must be available for installing solar panels.
  • Monthly electricity consumption must exceed 6,000 kWh according to the tariff bracket. Electricity bills for the summer months must be attached.
  • The distance between the main meter board (MDB) and the panel installation site must not exceed 50 meters. Photographs of the meter and the distance must be included
    Priority will be given to:
    o Farms producing vegetables and fruits aligned with food security projects.
    o Farms with greenhouses and modern irrigation systems.
    o Projects that contribute directly to enhancing national food security.
    Required Documents
    Applicants must submit:
    • Land ownership or usufruct contract.
    • Commercial registration (for companies/establishments).
    • Site map (Krooki) and coordinates.
    • Four electricity bills (May–August).
    • Photos of the proposed installation site.
    • Financial solvency documents.
    • Optional: Proof of full-time project management for access to interest-free financing from the Development Bank.
    • Association membership confirmation form.
