Oman lifts 2025 kingfish fishing ban, urges sustainable practices

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has announced the end of the 2025 kingfish fishing ban, which was in effect from August 15 to October 15.

MUSCAT – As of Thursday, October 16, 2025, fishing and trading of kingfish will be permitted across the Sultanate.


The Ministry extended its thanks and appreciation to Omani fishermen for their cooperation and adherence to the ban, which is aimed at preserving fish stocks and ensuring the long-term sustainability of marine resources.


The Ministry also reiterated the importance of responsible fishing practices, urging fishermen to comply with regulations, including the use of rational fishing methods and observing the minimum legal size for kingfish of 65 centimetres.
