Muscat, 13 Oct (ONA) — Oman’s Internet of Things (IoT) sector demonstrated remarkable expansion, with subscriptions surging 78.9 percent to reach 1.57 million by the end of August 2025. The latest figures from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) reveal substantial progress across Oman’s telecommunications landscape.
Mobile broadband services showed strong performance with active subscriptions reaching 5.58 million, while fixed broadband connections grew 3.1 percent to 593,262 subscriptions. The overall mobile services market expanded by 13.2 percent year-over-year, totalling 8.13 million subscriptions.
The subscription breakdown shows postpaid mobile services increasing 2.6 percent to 1.25 million, while prepaid services grew 4.3 percent to 5.31 million. Fiber optic technology continued its upward trajectory with an 11.9 percent increase to 347,199 subscriptions, and fixed 5G services saw modest growth of 0.7 percent to 217,660 subscriptions.

Contrasting these gains, fixed 4G technology subscriptions declined significantly by 44.1 percent to 15,885, while Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) services fell 43.3 percent to 10,942 subscriptions. Satellite subscriptions bucked the downward trend in traditional technologies, rising 23.7 percent to 825 connections. Other subscription categories, including internet over power lines, Ethernet, and leased lines, decreased by 12.3 percent to 751 subscriptions compared to the same period last year.
