MUSCAT : Preliminary data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that net electricity production in the Sultanate of Oman—which includes purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and purchases by the Rural Areas Electricity Company by region—increased by 9 percent to 34,857.4 gigawatt-hours by the end of August 2025, compared to 31,990.1 gigawatt-hours by the end of August 2024.
In contrast, water production in the Sultanate saw a slight year-on-year decline. By the end of August 2025, total water production stood at approximately 342.71 million cubic meters, marking a 1 percent decrease compared to 346.03 million cubic meters during the same period in 2024.
At the governorate level, Muscat Governorate witnessed a decrease in water production by 11.2 percent, reaching 136.57 million cubic meters, down from 153.78 million cubic meters in the same period last year. Meanwhile, water production in Dhofar Governorate increased by 3.4 percent, reaching 50.94 million cubic meters.
The remaining governorates collectively saw an 8.5 percent increase, producing 155.19 million cubic meters, compared to 142.99 million cubic meters as of August 2024.
