MUSCAT : This five-year tax exemption is part of a broader package of tax incentives designed to:
• Encourage the registration of ships under the Omani flag
• Support the national maritime transport sector and related services
• Stimulate investment in maritime transport industries
Taxpayers may benefit from the tax facilities by submitting an application to the Tax Authority, including the data shown in Form No. (18) of Income Tax for Withholding Tax, indicating the tax due on the total amount of services provided on board ship which is registered under the Omani flag, no later than the fourteenth (14) of the end of the month in which the amount was due to be paid or credited to the account, whichever is earlier.
The suspension specifically applies to withholding tax levied on service contracts carried out onboard ships that have acquired Omani nationality, are officially registered with the competent authority in Oman, and bear the Sultanate’s national flag.
