Muscat – As of 3 pm on Monday, weather analysis and satellite imagery indicate that the system is located northeast of the Arabian Sea at latitude 19.5° N and longitude 60.5° E, with surface wind speeds around the centre estimated between 28–33 knots (approximately 52–61 km/h). The storm’s center is currently about 130 km from Oman’s coast.
The system is expected to shift southwestward over the next 48 hours, heading towards the central Arabian Sea, with continued gradual weakening forecasted.
While the depression poses no direct threat to Oman, meteorologists note indirect effects, including cloud advection over the coastal areas of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, and Dhofar governorates, which may result in limited scattered rainfall.
Sea conditions are expected to be rough, with wave heights ranging from 2 to 4 meters. There is also a risk of seawater intrusion into low-lying coastal areas and khors (inlets) during high tide, particularly along the coasts of South Al Sharqiyah, Muscat, Al Wusta, and Dhofar.
The Civil Aviation Authority urges the public to follow official weather bulletins and updates issued by the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center as meteorological specialists continue to monitor the system closely.
