Muscat – As per the latest forecasts, Cyclone Shakti continues its southwest movement towards the coasts of the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. However, the system is expected to gradually weaken within the next 12 hours. By tonight and into Monday morning, the cyclone is projected to recurve eastward, moving back toward the central Arabian Sea and away from the Sultanate of Oman.

The centre of the storm is forecasted to come within 100 to 200 kilometres of Oman’s coastline at its closest point before changing direction.

Tropical storm conditions – with wind speeds between 34 to 64 knots – are expected to persist through Sunday evening, with forecasts covering the next two days indicating possible indirect impacts on the Sultanate from Sunday through Tuesday (October 5–7).

Authorities warn of rough sea conditions along all coastal areas of Oman, with wave heights ranging between 2 to 4 meters, which may cause sea water to spill over low-lying coastal zones and creeks. Forecast also indicate scattered rainfall of varying intensity, particularly over southeastern and central coastal regions, with expected accumulations between 10 to 30 mm.
