MUSCAT : According to the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center, Shakhti was centered Saturday afternoon at longitude 64.3 east and latitude 21.5 north, with winds reaching 45–55 knots (81–99 km/h). The storm’s eye was located about 400 km off Ras Al Hadd, and forecasts suggest wind speeds could escalate to 55–65 knots (90–113 km/h), pushing the storm into Category 1 cyclone status.
While Shakhti is expected to deviate eastward toward Indian territory from Sunday evening into Monday morning, indirect effects are likely to be felt along Oman’s coasts. These include scattered, limited rainfall in South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta, rising waves of 2–3.5 meters, and the possibility of seawater inundating low-lying areas and creeks during high tides in South Al Sharqiyah, Muscat, and Al Wusta governorates.
Experts say the system will gradually weaken after its peak, but caution remains. Specialists at the Early Warning Center continue round-the-clock monitoring. The Civil Aviation Authority has urged the public to follow official weather bulletins and avoid unverified information.
