MUSCAT : In an official notice to passengers, the airline stated that while travellers may still carry one spare battery (power bank) with a maximum capacity of 100 watt-hours, its use is strictly prohibited during the flight. The power bank must not be used to charge devices, not be charged itself, and must remain switched off throughout the flight. Passengers are required to store the battery either in the seat pocket in front of them or under the seat.
The decision comes in response to increasing global safety concerns over lithium battery-related incidents, particularly those involving power banks prone to thermal runaway, a condition that can lead to overheating and, in some cases, fires onboard.
Salam Air further clarified that power banks with capacities between 100 and 160 watt-hours will only be permitted with prior approval from the airline. These units must also follow the same in-flight restrictions. Power banks exceeding 160 watt-hours are strictly prohibited on all Salam Air flights.
