MUSCAT – The funding round also includes participation from Oxford Science Enterprises and Cambridge Innovation Capital, both of which maintain active investment relationships with the OIA.
This investment aligns with the OIA’s ongoing strategy to expand its footprint across the artificial intelligence (AI) value chain and explore cutting-edge technologies that enhance the efficiency and sustainability of global digital infrastructure.
Salience Labs is pioneering the development of a new generation of optical switches capable of transmitting data at ultra-high speeds using light alone – eliminating the need to convert optical signals into electrical ones. This breakthrough has the potential to boost data centre performance, accelerate AI model training, and reduce operational costs significantly.
In addition to its hardware innovations, the company also offers software solutions for real-time monitoring and control, including energy consumption tracking and thermal management, making it a strong fit for the evolving needs of modern, high-performance data centres.

This investment is an extension of the Oman Investment Authority’s efforts to diversify its portfolio in the artificial intelligence sector. The Authority has invested in ‘xAI’, a company specialising in developing basic AI models; ‘Sense’, a vertical applications company that delivers AI-driven energy management solutions for homes; and ‘Gradiant/Turing’, a company operating in data infrastructure and using AI to improve water desalination and data processing.
The investment also included ‘Crusoe Energy’, a company which builds AI-focused data centres powered by renewable energy such as solar and wind.
This diversity reflects the Authority’s commitment to building an integrated portfolio that includes software, infrastructure, and advanced technologies, enhancing the Sultanate of Oman’s position as a promising regional hub for artificial intelligence, while supporting its goals of innovation and economic diversification.
