Oman’s heritage ministry signs contract to loan artifacts for Bahla Fort development project

In a move to enhance the display of Omani cultural heritage and promote public-private partnerships, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism signed a contract to loan archaeological artifacts to Bahla Fort, a prominent UNESCO World Heritage site.

MUSCAT – The contract was signed with the investment company that is overseeing the development and management of Bahla Fort.


The signing took place at the office of the Director General of Antiquities at the Ministry’s General Diwan, in the presence of officials from the Ministry and representatives of the investing company.


The agreement forms part of broader efforts to revitalise heritage sites across Oman and enrich the visitor experience. Under the contract, a selection of archaeological artifacts – discovered in the vicinity of Bahla Fort and Mosque – will be loaned for display within the fort and mosque facilities. These items have been carefully curated and classified, and will be exhibited in specially designed halls developed in collaboration with the investing company.


The artifacts will be displayed in accordance with international museum and conservation standards, ensuring both their preservation and educational value.
