MUSCAT — For the first time in the Sultanate’s history, an Omani-built fishing vessel has been sold overseas, marking a landmark moment for the nation’s maritime industry.

The vessel, designed and constructed by SeaPride Marine Engineering LLC in Sur, has been officially handed over to FV Sea King of Liberia. The deal highlights Oman’s emerging shipbuilding capabilities in a sector long dominated by international players.

Industry experts say the sale not only demonstrates Oman’s ability to produce world-class vessels but also strengthens its ambitions to become a regional hub for marine engineering and advanced manufacturing, in line with Vision 2040.

“This is a proud moment for Oman and a testament to the skill and innovation of our marine engineering sector,” said Mohamed Ameen, Managing Director of Seapride Marine Engineering. “We believe this milestone will open new doors for international partnerships and export opportunities.”

The achievement is also being celebrated as a renaissance for Sur, a city with a rich maritime legacy, positioning it once again on the global shipbuilding map.
