Oman showcases maritime ambitions at London summit, signs global deals

LONDON : Opening the summit, His Excellency Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary for Transport at the Ministry, emphasized that Oman’s maritime sector has entered a transformative phase beyond infrastructure development. He noted that the focus now is on building an integrated ecosystem driven by flexibility, innovation, and regional integration, with London serving as a key platform for sharing Oman’s progress and engaging with international shipping leaders.

Discussions at the summit addressed global challenges shaping the industry, from strengthening supply chain resilience and cutting emissions to streamlining trade procedures.

Omar bin Mahmoud Al Mahrizi, CEO of ASYAD Ports and Free Zones, highlighted ASYAD’s central role in enhancing Oman’s global competitiveness through integrated logistics solutions.

Echoing this vision, Emil Hoogsteden, CEO of Sohar Industrial Port, underscored the importance of an integrated maritime ecosystem powered by technology, sustainable practices, and international partnerships.

On the sidelines of the summit, SOHAR Port and Freezone signed multiple memoranda of understanding with leading international organizations in areas including sustainable fuels, maritime services, talent development, safety standards, and global media cooperation.
