MUSCAT – This year’s celebration was held under the theme ‘Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child’, as designated by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Saeed bin Hareb Al Lamki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, and was attended by a number of dignitaries, ministry officials, and around 250 participants from the healthcare sector, including both medical and paramedical professionals.

The programme featured scientific lectures, panel discussions, and a scientific exhibition highlighting research papers and developmental initiatives in the field of patient safety.
This year’s events highlight the importance of raising public awareness of safety risks in child and newborn care in all healthcare settings; empowering parents, caregivers, and children in the field of patient safety by promoting education, awareness, and active participation in care; and advocating for enhanced research in the field of patient safety and care for children and newborns.

As part of the nationwide initiative, the Ministry’s Quality Assurance Center, in cooperation with central directorates, will conduct awareness campaigns, educational exhibitions, and visual presentations throughout September, engaging hospitals and governorates across Oman.

The WHO’s 2025 theme underscores global and national efforts to improve maternal and child health, ensuring that safe healthcare is provided from birth through early childhood. The campaign also reflects a broader societal commitment to reducing child mortality and preventable harm, and to building a healthier, safer future for the next generations.
