MUSCAT — The Public Services Regulatory Authority (APSR) has confirmed that the widespread electricity outage which hit several governorates on Monday was caused by a technical failure, not a cyberattack, as speculated on social media.
Earlier in the day, APSR had reported a sudden and unexpected disruption in the electricity network, which left multiple areas across the Sultanate without power. Specialized companies were immediately mobilized to restore service, with supply returning gradually before full restoration was announced later in the evening.
In response to circulating rumours suggesting the outage was the result of a cyberattack, an APSR spokesperson clarified during a televised interview that the claims were “baseless and unfounded.” He stressed that preliminary investigations show the incident stemmed from a technical issue at one of the power plants.
