MUSCAT : Organised by the Directorate General of Health Services in South Al Batinah Governorate and accredited by the Oman Medical Specialty Board, the conference brings together around 100 participants, including doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and health educators.
The event addresses childhood obesity, recognised as a growing public health concern in the Sultanate due to increasing rates linked to modern lifestyle shifts, including high-calorie diets, sugar-sweetened beverages, and limited physical activity. Experts highlighted that addressing obesity early can significantly reduce long-term healthcare costs.

The conference aims to understand the biology of childhood obesity and its complications, improve skills of healthcare professionals, and enhance awareness of nutritional assessment methods and development of appropriate treatment plans by taking into account behavioural interventions, physical activity, and drug and surgical treatments when necessary. It also aims to study the psychological and social impact of obesity.
Held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Yahya bin Sulaiman Al Nadabi, Wali of Rustaq, the conference was also attended by several top officials from the Governorate. The agenda featured a series of scientific lectures and working papers, offering insights into the multifaceted dimensions of childhood obesity.
