MUSCAT — The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has announced that certified electronic copies of ID card, and driver’s licence are now directly available through its official website and are legally recognised for use in the Sultanate.

First Lieutenant Salem bin Saeed Al-Farsi, Project Manager for Digital Identity at the ROP, confirmed that the digital documents carry the same legal weight as physical copies. “Even in official situations, such as presenting identification to a government entity or to a police patrol, the electronic version can be used because it is legally recognised,” he said.

The move eliminates the need to visit service centres to obtain or carry physical copies of documents, reflecting Oman’s ongoing push toward digital transformation and greater convenience for citizens and residents.
