Expat workers urged to secure professional classification certificates two months before Oman visa expiry

The Ministry of Labour has issued a public notice urging all companies and workers to initiate the procedures for obtaining the Professional Classification Certificate and the Professional Practice License well in advance of key deadlines.

MUSCAT – “The Ministry of Labour urges all companies and workers to proactively begin the procedures for obtaining the Professional Classification Certificate and the Professional Practice License at least one to two months prior to the expiry of the non-Omani worker’s residence card or the Omani worker’s employment contract,” states the Ministry notice, which aligns with previous announcements issued for each sector. This is aimed at ensuring timely verification and issuance, and also avoidance of any penalties from other competent authorities.


The notice also specifies why early action is important. It lists the reasons as follows:
• Avoid administrative delays and financial penalties.
• Ensure smooth contract renewals and business continuity.
• Enhance company and worker readiness in line with professional accreditation requirements.
• Committing to professional accreditation is a proactive step that ensures continuity and a streamlined work environment.
This applies to:

  1. Professional Practice License – Logistics Sector, Energy and Minerals Sector
  2. Professional Classification Certificate – Engineering Sector, Accounting, Finance, and Legal Sectors
