MUSCAT : The meeting was held in the Grand Hall of the Cultural Centre at Sultan Qaboos University.
Fahd bin Saeed bin Shaikhan Al Qassabi, Director General of Scholarships at the Ministry, stated that the meeting aimed to inform scholarship recipients and their parents about the latest procedures and developments related to external scholarships. These covered academic, legal, religious, and cultural aspects essential for a successful study experience abroad.

He explained that the session also included a legal awareness segment designed to familiarize students with the laws and regulations of the host countries. Key guidance was provided on pre-departure and arrival procedures – covering airport protocols, personal safety, and the importance of representing the Sultanate of Oman honourably and responsibly.

He also noted that this year’s external scholarships for undergraduate studies include 550 students, some of which are designated through coordination with government entities such as the Medical City for Military and Security Services, the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, and the Military and Security Services Retirement Fund. Additionally, scholarship allocations include 33 to the State of Kuwait, 8 to the Kingdom of Bahrain, 5 to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and 24 provided by the French Republic.

The programme also featured a visual presentation by the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, offering religious and cultural guidance to help students maintain their Islamic values and uphold their Omani identity. It addressed how to navigate cultural differences, respect diverse social norms, and maintain behaviour consistent with Omani values and ethical standards.

Specialists from the Directorate General of Scholarships provided a comprehensive overview of the scholarship programs, external grants, and associated electronic services. Key topics included travel procedures, academic and housing regulations in host countries, and the use of the Ministry’s online platforms, including the ASAS system, to access services and information.

Students were advised on the importance of adapting to new environments, showing resilience, and balancing academic excellence with social engagement, so they may serve as exemplary ambassadors of Oman abroad.

The meeting also emphasised the need for clear communication with supervisory authorities before making any decisions that could affect academic progress, such as changing majors or institutions, suspending studies, or withdrawing. Students were encouraged to use official communication channels or the Ministry’s social media platforms for such matters.

The session concluded with an open discussion, allowing students and parents to ask questions and clarify various concerns related to the scholarship journey.

The Ministry also announced that additional virtual orientation sessions will be held in cooperation with cultural attachés and supervisory bodies. These sessions will provide students with detailed information about their academic disciplines, university placement, lifestyle in host countries, and how to stay in contact with attachés and ministry specialists during their studies.
