Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) announced that Omani ports handled a total of 2.42 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) between January and June 2025, an 11.7% increase from the same period in 2024. This growth reflects rising efficiency in port operations at Salalah, Sohar, and Duqm.
Additionally, 6,586 ships docked at Omani ports and marine docks during the period, marking an 11.1% year-on-year increase, with significant contributions from Sultan Qaboos Port, Shinas, and Salalah.
The total volume of goods handled hit over 70.1 million tons, up 5.2% from the previous year. Ports also received 50,248 vehicles and over 2.6 million heads of livestock, showcasing the sector’s diverse logistical capabilities.

Muhanna bin Musa bin Baqer, Director General of Ports at MTCIT, highlighted that these results are a direct outcome of infrastructure upgrades and expansion efforts in line with Oman Vision 2040. He noted that these achievements reinforce Oman’s aim to become a leading regional maritime logistics hub.
As part of future-readiness efforts, the ministry awarded consultancy contracts for:
Design and supervision of Khor Jarama’s development, aiming to enhance maritime utility.
Rehabilitation of Shannah and Masirah ports, including upgrades to docks, breakwaters, access bridges, and master planning for port organization.
Shinas Port operator Quadrilateral Marine Solutions and Systems Company signed a usufruct agreement to establish a marine fuel processing and storage center, with support from MTCIT.
