MUSCAT – According to the initial assessment, the whale died from suffocation, after ropes became entangled around its body, restricting its movement and ability to breathe.
The concerned teams carried out all necessary environmental and technical procedures in line with established protocols for dealing with marine animal strandings.
The incident highlights the growing threat posed by marine waste, especially abandoned fishing nets and ropes, to marine ecosystems. “These incidents underscore the importance of environmental awareness among fishermen and seagoers,” stated the Authority, calling for the safe disposal of fishing gear and avoiding dumping waste into the sea, to preserve marine life and ecological balance,” the Authority stated.

It also reaffirmed its continuous efforts to monitor and address cases of marine strandings, as well as implement awareness campaigns and periodic monitoring to reduce threats to the marine environment in the Sultanate of Oman.
