Baghdad: Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, one of Iraq’s most storied football clubs, confirmed the signing of Rashid Jaber to lead the team following a transitional year that saw fluctuating performances under multiple coaches. Jaber replaces Iraqi coach Ali Abdul Jabbar, who had stepped in midway through last season after a dip in form under former head coach Wissam Rizq of Qatar.
Jaber brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously coached the Oman national team during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, as well as top domestic clubs including Dhofar, Seeb, Suwaiq, and Oman Club. With this new role, he becomes the second Omani coach to join the Iraqi league, following Talal Khalfan, who currently serves as assistant coach at Diyala Club.
His appointment is part of a growing trend among Iraqi clubs to recruit foreign coaching talent. This season alone, several teams have tapped international expertise, including Egyptians Moamen Suleiman (Al-Shorta) and Mohammed Abdel-Azim (Al-Najaf), Syrian Ayman Al-Hakim (Al-Karkh), Qatari Talal Al-Balushi (Al-Talaba), Jordanian Abdullah Abu Zama (Maysan Oil), and Tunisian Yamen Al-Zalfani (Diyala).
