Field inspections were conducted across nearby beaches to ensure no additional pollution was present. As a safety precaution, authorities temporarily closed select beach access points, in collaboration with the Royal Oman Police, to ensure public safety and allow smooth progress of cleanup operations.
Eng. Zahran bin Ahmed Al Abdelsalam, Acting Director General of Environment in Dhofar, said the rapid deployment of response teams helped contain the spill and prevent its spread. He noted that several days of intensive cleanup operations had significantly restored the affected beaches.
He explained that the efforts are not limited to removing visible pollution, but also include protecting marine and coastal ecosystems, given their environmental and economic importance. He pointed out that accurate surveys were conducted to identify pollution hotspots and develop a comprehensive response plan focused on the most affected areas using appropriate manual and mechanical means.
He further commended the active role of all parties involved in the response efforts, including the Dhofar Governor’s Office, Dhofar Municipality, the Royal Oman Police, the military sectors, and the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority, stressing that this coordination contributed to the success of efforts to address environmental pollution.
