MUSCAT : In a remarkable turn of events on board Flight IX 442, a passenger went into unexpected labour while en route to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The delivery was expertly handled by the airline’s cabin crew, with the assistance of a nurse travelling as a passenger.
According to a statement by Air India Express, the crew immediately acted upon the medical emergency, using their onboard training to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for the birth. The flight deck crew promptly informed Air Traffic Control and requested priority landing in Mumbai.
Once the flight touched down, a medical team and ambulance—already on standby—swiftly transported the mother and newborn to a nearby hospital for post-natal care. An Air India Express staff member accompanied them to provide further support.
