NEW YORK : Representatives of Oman emphasised the need for a comprehensive review of the Security Council’s structure and decision-making processes, stressing the importance of grounding reforms in the principles of justice, mutual cooperation, and global harmony.
The call comes amid growing discussions among UN member states about reforming the Council to better reflect the geopolitical dynamics and challenges of the 21st century. Oman highlighted that true global peace and economic prosperity can only be achieved through inclusive representation and equitable decision-making.
The United Nations Security Council, consisting of 15 members each with one vote, holds primary responsibility for maintaining international peace and security. Its decisions are binding under the UN Charter, and it plays a central role in identifying threats, encouraging peaceful settlements, and authorizing measures ranging from sanctions to military action.
