Muscat: As of the end of May 2025, the total number of mobile service subscriptions in the Sultanate rose to 8.13 million, marking a 15.2% increase compared to May 2024. This growth is fueled by rising demand for digital connectivity and the widespread adoption of smart solutions.
Postpaid mobile subscriptions saw a healthy rise of 5.6%, reaching 1,239,509, while prepaid mobile subscriptions grew by 3.1%, totaling 5,335,847. The standout performer was the IoT segment, which recorded an exceptional 118.7% increase, climbing to 1,554,999 subscriptions—a clear indication of the country’s accelerated push toward smart technologies.
The number of active mobile broadband subscriptions also surged, reaching 5,414,124 by the end of May 2025, reflecting growing consumer and business demand for high-speed internet access on-the-go.

Fixed internet services also showed steady growth. Fixed broadband subscriptions increased by 2.6% to 588,015, while fiber optic services saw an 11.4% jump, totaling 339,279 subscriptions. Fixed 5G subscriptions rose modestly by 2.1% to 215,850, showing a continued shift to high-speed fixed wireless services.
However, older technologies experienced a decline. Fixed 4G subscriptions fell sharply by 38.1% to 19,654, DSL subscriptions dropped by 50.8% to 11,806, and satellite internet subscriptions decreased by 2.1% to 653. Other niche services—such as internet via power lines, Ethernet, and leased lines—declined by 12%, down to just 773 subscriptions.
