MUSCAT : The conviction stems from a complaint involving a vehicle repair service that failed to meet agreed-upon standards.
According to the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), the case began when a consumer filed a complaint stating that he had contracted with a vehicle repair shop to fix his car’s transmission for RO 590, with the service expected to be completed within one week. However, upon receiving the vehicle, the consumer discovered new faults that had not existed prior to the repair.
Unable to resolve the issue amicably, the Consumer Protection Department in Barka took legal action. After gathering evidence and referring the case to the Public Prosecution, it was transferred to the competent court. Following a detailed review—including testimony from a technical expert—the court confirmed that the violation had occurred.

The court convicted the business owner of failing to provide the service in a proper and agreed-upon manner. The ruling included a sentence of ten days’ imprisonment and a fine of RO 100. However, the court suspended the prison term on the condition that the civil claims be settled within two weeks of the judgment date. Additionally, the court ordered the business to repair the faults in accordance with the expert’s recommendations and to compensate the consumer with RO 200. The business was also required to bear the costs of the criminal proceedings.
