MUSCAT – The Ministry of Health highlighted the critical need to ensure a sustainable supply of blood and its components for patients across the Sultanate.
In a statement issued, the Department of Blood Bank Services (DBBS) emphasised that the daily demand for blood units can reach up to 150, underscoring the necessity for a collective community effort to meet this vital need.

“Based on our commitment to ensuring the sustainable availability of blood and its components, we urge all blood and platelet donors to take the initiative and continue to donate periodically, every three to four months. We would also like to point out that the current daily need for blood units may reach 150 units, which requires the combined efforts of everyone,” stated the appeal from DBBS.

Appreciation was also extended to organisations that regularly host blood donation campaigns. The Department hopes these organisations will further encourage their employees and members to participate in institutional campaigns to help achieve the required daily quota of blood units.
For individuals wishing to donate, the Central Blood Bank in Bausher operates during from Saturdays to Thursdays between 8 am and 8 pm, and on Fridays from 8 am to 2 pm.
