MUSCAT – The launch aligns with the goals of Oman Vision 2040, emphasising smarter services, improved community engagement, and technological advancement.
The newly enhanced platform offers a host of user-friendly features aimed at providing accurate and up-to-date real-time information on weather conditions in various regions of the Sultanate of Oman.
The website and smartphone app feature a simple and intuitive interface that allows users to quickly access weather data, with a colour-coded alert system that reflects the severity of weather phenomena such as wind speed, rainfall amounts, and wave height, making it easier to understand the weather and take appropriate action.
They also rely on artificial intelligence technologies to analyse big weather data, enabling more accurate forecasts and personalised alerts based on geographic location and user behaviour. This is set to enhance the ability of both citizens and relevant authorities to plan effectively and make informed decisions regarding weather-related scenarios.
Beyond core forecasting, the upgraded platforms offer a comprehensive suite of services. These include daily and hourly weather bulletins, alongside early warnings for a range of weather hazards such as heavy rain, strong winds, fog, high waves, floods, hurricanes, and other tropical conditions. Furthermore, interactive maps, graphs, and written reports are available as valuable resources to support climate research and studies within Oman.
Commenting on the launch, His Excellency Eng. Nayef bin Ali Al-Abri, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, stated, “The launch of the upgraded version of the Oman Meteorology website and smartphone application comes within the framework of the Authority’s efforts to enhance community partnerships, keep pace with global developments in the field of digital transformation, and enhance the efficiency of users’ access to weather and climate data in smart and interactive ways. This step represents a qualitative shift towards more accurate and advanced services that meet the aspirations of society.”
The upgraded version of the Oman Meteorology website and smartphone application was launched in conjunction with the Civil Aviation Authority’s 2025 media briefing, under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al Harrasi, Minister of Information, and in the presence of a number of strategic partners and relevant authorities, along with a group of media professionals from various government and private entities.
