MUSCAT : The court sentenced the owner, who operates in the aluminium fabrication sector, to six months of imprisonment and a fine of RO 900; he has also been ordered to cover the criminal case expenses.
The court ruled that the more severe penalty (imprisonment) be carried out exclusively. The related civil claim has been referred to the competent court for further proceedings.
The case stems from a complaint received by the CPA’s department in Barka. A consumer had entered into a contract with the establishment to fabricate an aluminium canopy for RO 1,050, with the agreement stipulating that the work be completed within two weeks. The consumer paid a RO 500 advance, but the business failed to fulfil the contract and continued to stall, prompting the consumer to file an official complaint.

The CPA initiated legal procedures, referring the case to the Public Prosecution, which conducted investigations and submitted the case to the court. The court found the establishment in violation for failing to deliver the agreed-upon service in a proper and timely manner, and for not issuing a written invoice in clear Arabic confirming the service provided.
In this context, the CPA reaffirmed its commitment to upholding market regulations and called on all commercial entities to strictly adhere to the provisions of the laws and regulations. It warned that legal action will be taken against any violators in order toto preserve the integrity of commercial transactions in Oman.
