Sultan Qaboos University climbs 28 places in QS World University Rankings 2026

Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) has continued its progress in the QS World University Rankings 2026 for the second year in a row, advancing 28 places to 334th globally.

MUSCAT – This marks the second consecutive year of progress for the university and its highest-ever position in this prestigious international ranking.


The 2026 QS World University Rankings assessed 1,503 institutions from a total of 8,467 universities worldwide, with 112 new universities added to the list this year. SQU’s advancement highlights its sustained efforts to enhance academic quality, research performance, and global engagement.
The university recorded significant improvements in key performance indicators, including academic reputation, graduate employment outcomes, research citations, and the strength of its international research network. These gains reflect SQU’s strong focus on producing highly qualified graduates, developing its research ecosystem, and supporting innovation across disciplines.


Commenting on this achievement, His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, Vice Chancellor of the University, said, “This achievement reflects reality and is the result of the efforts and continuous commitment to making Sultan Qaboos University among the best in the world in various fields. It also underscores the leadership we seek to raise the quality of education, and aligns with the goals of Oman Vision 2040, which aims to see at least one Omani university among the top 300 globally by the year 2040.”


Sultan Qaboos University has also made significant progress in the QS World University Rankings by Academic Programs 2025 over the past year, with its petroleum engineering programme ranking 25th globally and nursing ranking 32nd, making it one of the top 50 majors globally.


These achievements confirm Sultan Qaboos University’s commitment to continuing its pioneering academic and scientific journey in higher education and scientific research, and to strengthening its position as a prestigious global academic institution.
