NEW DELHI : The announcement was made during a ceremony in London on Monday, marking yet another historic milestone in Dhoni’s celebrated career.
Recognised for his transformative impact on modern cricket, Dhoni’s induction into the ICC Hall of Fame cements his legacy as one of the sport’s greatest leaders and wicketkeeper-batsmen. The Hall of Fame, established by the International Cricket Council in 2009, celebrates the game’s most exceptional contributors—players who become eligible five years after their final international appearance.
From leading a young Indian team to victory in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 to guiding the country to an unforgettable ODI World Cup win on home soil in 2011, and securing the Champions Trophy in 2013, Dhoni remains the only captain in history to win all three major ICC white-ball trophies. His composed leadership and instinctive decision-making revolutionized the role of a modern-day skipper.

A trailblazer with the bat, Dhoni redefined the concept of a finisher in one-day internationals. His unbeaten 183* against Sri Lanka in 2005 remains the highest individual score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs. Over his career, he amassed more than 10,000 ODI runs at an average of 50.57—an astonishing feat matched by few.
Equally exceptional behind the stumps, Dhoni’s swift glove work and unorthodox style set a new benchmark for wicketkeeping, making him a formidable presence in limited-overs cricket. His game sense and calm demeanour became trademarks of Indian cricket during his era.
The ICC Hall of Fame Class of 2025 also includes celebrated cricketers Hashim Amla, Matthew Hayden, Graeme Smith, and Daniel Vettori among the male inductees.
