MUSCAT : The project, located in Sohar Governorate, marks a pivotal shift in Oman’s industrial strategy by turning environmental challenges into economic opportunities.

Under the patronage of H.E. Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, the opening ceremony was attended by top government officials and private sector executives. The facility—implemented by Green Technology Mining and Services Company—is the first of its kind in Oman and the region to recycle copper mining waste using renewable energy and advanced, clean technologies.

With an investment exceeding OMR 41 million, the project is the result of a strategic partnership between BPG Group and Oman Mining Company, supported directly by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion. Its operations are set to begin this June with an initial annual capacity of 60 tons of green copper cathode—recognized globally as a sustainably recycled metal. By December 2026, capacity is expected to soar to 12,000 tons annually.

Eng. Khalid bin Salim Al Qassabi, Director General of Industry, emphasized that the ministry played a key role in creating a supportive regulatory environment to ensure the project meets the highest technical and environmental standards.

Ernest Griesemann, CEO of BPG Group, highlighted that the project reflects a long-term collaboration dating back to 2018 and showcases the group’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable mining.

The initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040, reinforcing the government’s pledge to boost the added value of local resources, promote industrial localization, and elevate Oman’s standing as a regional hub for green industries and sustainable mining.
