MUSCAT : According to the Council, “In the scales of justice facial injuries warrant double compensation, as it affects human dignity and prestige.”

In a statement, the Council highlighted that the face holds a unique and revered status. It stressed that the face is not merely a part of the body, but “the mirror of the soul, the place of contemplation, and the place of dignity.” Therefore, any distortion or harm to it inflicts “a wound to the apparent and the hidden,” meriting a heightened level of justice.

This judicial interpretation aims to ensure that victims of facial injuries receive compensation that truly reflects the unique and severe nature of the damage, acknowledging not only the physical harm but also the significant psychological and social distress caused by such disfigurement.
