MUSCAT : Soaring 126 metres into the sky — the equivalent of a 40-storey building — the monumental structure now stands as the highest man-made feature in the country.

The inauguration event was held under the patronage of His Excellency Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, and in the presence of His Excellency Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality.

The towering steel structure was inaugurated as part of the opening of the newly developed Al Khuwair Square in the Ministries District, a vibrant 18,000-square-metre public space designed for community recreation and cultural engagement. Measuring 18 metres in length and 31.5 metres in width, the Omani flag atop the pole is now visible from across the capital.

Built using 135 tonnes of steel, the flagpole features an aircraft warning light system and has an outer diameter of 2,800mm at the base tapering to 900mm at the top. The structure not only redefines Muscat’s skyline but also symbolizes Oman’s unity, progress, and aspirations.
The $10 million project was developed in partnership with the private sector and fully funded by Jindal Steel Sohar.
Al Khuwair Square, now home to this towering symbol, features palm-lined pathways, lush green areas, walking and cycling tracks, a skate park, outdoor art zones, and multi-use sports facilities. The space also includes amenities such as public restrooms and parking for over 100 vehicles, reinforcing its role as a central hub for recreation and civic pride.
