DUBAI: At the Indo-UAE Conclave held by the India Today Group in Dubai, Satish Sivan, Consul General of India in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, stated that the Indian diaspora in the UAE has seen a twofold rise over the past decade—from 2.2 million to 4.36 million.
“I make a speech one week, and the next week the data becomes redundant,” said Sivan, pointing out the pace of change. He added that the number stood at 3.89 million in December 2023 but surged to 4.36 million by December 2024.
Echoing the sentiment, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Sunjay Sudhir, highlighted that more than half of this growing population resides in Dubai. “Dubai is where the India-UAE relationship historically started. Our first dhows landed at Port Rashid here,” Sudhir said.

The ambassador further underscored the economic significance of the Indian community, stating, “If you look at our investments into the UAE, the vast majority is in Dubai. More than 60 per cent of the CFOs driving the economy here are actually from India.”
