MUSCAT : The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) announced that the rulings stem from consumer complaints received by the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah Governorate, where businesses were found to have failed to deliver services as promised, breaching contractual obligations and consumer rights.

The first case involved a furniture detailing and furnishing establishment that failed to complete a contracted work of curtains and sofa sets within the agreed timeframe, despite receiving an advance payment of RO 500 out of the total Ro 840. The court convicted the accused of failing to provide the service properly and fined them RO 100, also ordering the establishment to pay the consumer RO 230 in compensation.

In the second, a blacksmith and aluminum workshop contracted to detail doors and windows for RO 1230 (receiving RO 730 advance), also failed to adhere to the agreed-upon completion date. The court convicted the first defendant to one month in prison followed by permanent deportation from Oman. The second defendant in the same case was fined RO 100, and both were ordered to jointly pay RO 500 in compensation to the consumer and cover the legal expenses.

The third case involved a ceramic installation company that failed to deliver purchased tiles worth RO 465, for which the consumer had paid in full. The court convicted the accused of violating consumer protection law for not providing the service as agreed, fining each accused RO 100 and obligating them to jointly pay RO 420 in compensation to the consumer, along with legal expenses.

Through these rulings, the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah Governorate emphasizes to suppliers and service providers the need to adhere to the principles of credibility, transparency, and honesty in their dealings with consumers, and to comply with the duties stipulated in the Consumer Protection Law.
