MUSCAT : This approach includes tiered grace periods for hiring Omani nationals and the formation of a committee to address grievances and exceptional cases.
In a statement issued as part of its clarification on widely circulated social media discussions, the Ministry emphasized its awareness of the varying capacities and operational realities of different institutions. Towards this end, the new policy introduces timelines and support measures to help establishments comply with the requirement to appoint at least one Omani national after one year of operation.
According to the Ministry:
• Establishments with 10 or more workers are required to implement the appointment within three months.
• Businesses with fewer than 10 employees are granted a six-month grace period.
• Companies that already have full-time Omani staff are given a one-year grace period from the date of the decision.
To further ensure fair and practical implementation, the Ministry has formed a special committee tasked with reviewing grievances and evaluating exceptional cases that may be impacted due to the nature of certain industries or business models. The committee will also monitor implementation progress and submit recommendations for adjustments based on practical experience.
