MUSCAT : In line with its commitment to raising awareness, fostering knowledge exchange, and supporting national competencies and youth development across educational institutions in the Sultanate of Oman, Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) recently participated in the Engineering Day at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Salalah. The participation in the event, themed “Building a Greener Tomorrow Through Engineering Innovation”, reflects OETC’s ongoing efforts to promote collaboration, explore opportunities for development, and create platforms for expertise and knowledge sharing with higher education institutions across the Sultanate. It also underscores the company’s dedication to talent development and empowering young Omanis by equipping them with the necessary skills to compete in future job markets and contribute meaningfully to building Oman’s future in alignment with national visions.
The event featured an accompanying exhibition, where OETC highlighted its critical role and responsibilities within the electricity sector, showcasing its latest technologies and projects in electricity transmission, its policies and procedures, and the best practices and standards adopted within the industry. The exhibition also included discussions about OETC’s initiatives and activities aimed at achieving the highest standards in health and safety. In addition, the event hosted keynote sessions addressing current perspectives on engineering and innovation, along with the integrated engineering competition, which presented student and faculty projects focused on sustainability and artificial intelligence.
Eng. Salem Al Zubaidi, General Manager of Transmission – Dhofar Governorate at OETC, emphasized the company’s strong interest in participating in such local events and activities, recognizing their significant role in enhancing national capacities, developing youth skills, and creating valuable opportunities for interaction and knowledge-sharing among industry leaders, experts, specialists, academics, and students. He also highlighted the importance of such engagement in driving research and fostering innovation in line with national goals.

Al Zubaidi further reaffirmed OETC’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of sustainability across key areas including environmental stewardship, community development, and corporate governance. He stated that the company’s continuous engagement and collaboration with various community institutions stems from its deep-rooted belief in the importance of establishing strong, cooperative frameworks to help realize Oman’s national vision. He added: “OETC’s dedication to youth development is evident through a wide range of initiatives and programs we actively implement, including site visits to company facilities, summer and winter internship programs, participation in educational activities, and the organization of workshops and lectures. These efforts are part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, support for innovation, and encouragement of scientific research, ensuring steady progress aligned with Oman’s aspirations and strategic goals”.
It is worth mentioning that OETC, a member of Nama Group, is the only company responsible for the transmission and control of electricity across the Sultanate’s network. The electricity is transmitted from production stations to distributed load centers in the governorates. The transmission network operates at a voltage of 132kV and above to cover most of the governorates in the Sultanate, whether in the north or the south. Furthermore, OETC manages the interconnection lines between Oman and the GCC interconnection network, which operates at a voltage of 220kV.
