MUSCAT : The launch ceremony, held under the patronage of Her Highness Sayyida Dr. Mona bint Fahd Al Said, Chairperson of the Association, is part of the association’s ongoing efforts to promote children’s rights and create a safe, protective environment for children.

During the event, Her Highness Dr. Mona Al Said highlighted the association’s commitment to protecting children from all forms of abuse and violence. She pointed out the importance of educational initiatives aimed at raising awareness among both children and adults, ensuring that children are equipped with the knowledge to protect themselves from harm.

She stated that the booklet is a part of the association’s larger effort to create development projects and awareness programs that focus on the well-being and protection of children. The association aims to foster a culture that upholds children’s rights and safeguards them from all forms of violence and exploitation.

The ‘I Am Aware’ booklet was authored by Amal bint Khalifa Al Shamakhiya, a certified human rights trainer with the United Nations Training and Documentation Centre. Amal explained that the booklet was created in response to the psychological scars left by child abuse, which often go unnoticed. She emphasised that silence does not protect victims but only deepens their suffering.

She further explained that the booklet provides an interactive and simplified approach to educating children about their rights, particularly the importance of bodily autonomy. It also demonstrates that boundaries that must be respected by everyone, as it guides children on how to react if they face inappropriate behaviour.

The booklet is designed to be visually engaging, with images and illustrations tailored to attract children’s attention. It includes interactive activities such as colouring exercises and questions to reinforce key concepts in a fun and indirect manner. The goal is to encourage a dialogue between children and caregivers about children’s rights and how to protect themselves in a way that is both educational and enjoyable.
