Muscat: The Asian Physics Olympiad, featuring 240 students from 30 Asian countries, is one of the most prominent international competitions for high school talents in the field of physics. This year, Oman’s delegation includes Ayham bin Mustafa Al Khayari (Muscat Governorate), Omar bin Hamdan Al Falahi and Shahad bint Ibrahim Al Abri (South Al Batinah), Al Ghalia bint Mohammed Al Tuwairshi (North Al Batinah), Al Afra bint Saif Al Awfi and Reem bint Nasser Al Jadidi (Al Dakhiliyah), Naama bint Ghusn Al Busaidi (North Al Sharqiyah), and Fatima bint Hafez Al Busaidi (Al Dakhiliyah).

Oman’s participation underlines the Sultanate’s strong commitment to nurturing scientific talent and innovation at both regional and global levels. It also reflects the significant progress made in science education, especially physics, and highlights the success of national strategies focused on human resource development.

The APhO, founded in 1999 by Professor Johannes Surya and the President of the International Physics Olympiad, consists of rigorous theoretical and practical exams spread over ten hours. Students selected for the competition undergo an intensive multi-level training and selection process to earn their place.

Since its inception, the Olympiad has grown to include 28 countries and serves as a key preparatory event ahead of the International Physics Olympiad. Last year’s edition was hosted by Malaysia, and the upcoming editions are scheduled for South Korea in 2026 and Thailand in 2027.
