Muscat – In a statement released today, April 22, regarding Omani-Russian economic relations, His Excellency Sheikh Al Rawas stated: “This visit comes at a time of growing communication between the private sectors of the two countries through meetings and events organised by or participated in by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, most notably the participation of the Sultanate of Oman as the guest of honour at the 27th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, in addition to the activities of the Omani-Russian Business Council.”
He highlighted Oman’s strategic geographic position as a key advantage for Russian exporters seeking access to global markets. Oman’s location along open seas and year-round navigable waters makes it an ideal gateway for exporting Russian goods to emerging markets in Asia, Africa, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. He added that the efficiency and proximity of Omani shipping routes further enhance its value as a trade hub.
His Excellency Sheikh Al Rawas also underscored the strong potential for cooperation in several high-impact sectors, particularly food security. He proposed the establishment of large-scale wheat and grain silos in Oman to serve as export centres for regional and global markets. Additionally, he noted investment prospects in technology, petrochemicals, and tourism, describing the Russian market as a promising source of inbound tourism to the Sultanate.
