Muscat – According to a statement from the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA, the decision to impose penalty arises from the complaint received by its department in Barka from a consumer who had purchased 55-metre cable for a building, for an amount of RO 730.

The establishment failed to comply and kept delaying the delivery of the item. To aggravate the situation, the consumer later found that the item delivered by the establishment did not meet the agreed specifications.

Due to the failure to reach an amicable settlement, the CPA took necessary legal measures and referred the complaint to the Public Prosecution, which initiated an investigation and referred the case to the competent court.

The court ruled to convict the defendants, sentencing each of them to a fine of RO 1,000, and annul the contract, obligating the establishment to refund the amount of RO 730 to the consumer, in addition to an amount of RO 500 as compensation for all incurred damages.

The Consumer Protection Authority urges all establishments to comply with the laws, affirming that it will not hesitate to take the necessary measures against violators of the Consumer Protection Law.
