Muscat – The national carrier has confirmed that 293 of its staff members have chosen to accept voluntary severance packages as part of the airline’s broader efforts to enhance financial stability and ensure long-term sustainability.
Of the 415 employees identified as surplus under the restructuring plan, 74 have been successfully redeployed within the airline and 87 have been offered roles across the broader aviation ecosystem. 293 employees have opted for severance packages ranging from 12-24 months. The company remains engaged with the Ministry of Labour and the Union to explore suitable outcomes for the remaining employees who have not yet opted for any of the available options.
The restructuring also comes alongside the company’s Omanisation efforts. By reducing the number of expatriate workers by 487 and replacing them with Omani nationals, Oman Air has increased its Omanisation rate to 79.4 percent, up from 74.8 percent in 2023 – highlighting its dedication to national workforce development.
The airline confirmed it continues to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Labour and the General Federation of Oman Workers to identify suitable pathways for the remaining staff who have yet to opt for any of the offered alternatives.
Over the past 18 months, Oman Air has worked with internal and external stakeholders to reshape its workforce in alignment with international aviation standards and operational needs. Affected employees were presented with multiple options, including end-of-service benefits, job placement support, and preferential access to internal vacancies.
In a show of commitment to employee welfare, Oman Air allocated RO 15 million to assist impacted staff, ensuring a balanced approach between business goals and social responsibility.
CEO Con Korfiatis praised the progress, stating that the airline’s proactive and compassionate approach has helped many employees’ transition successfully. He reaffirmed Oman Air’s vision of building a strong national carrier that contributes meaningfully to the Sultanate’s aviation sector and economic future.
