Muscat – The session focused on proposed mechanisms for dealing with the US decision on customs tariffs and the measures Omani institutions and companies can take to mitigate any negative impacts. It also reviewed strategies for maintaining the competitiveness of Omani products in US and global markets.

His Highness Sayyid Dr. Adham bin Turki Al Said, Chairman of OCCI’s Economic Committee, noted that the imposition of uniform global customs tariffs by the U.S. represents a significant challenge for Omani trade, especially regarding bilateral commerce. He emphasized the importance of proactive planning to ensure that Omani products remain competitive in U.S. and global markets.

OCCI Board member Saud bin Ahmed Al Nahari highlighted that the session is part of the Chamber’s efforts to keep pace with changes in global trade policies and help Omani companies prepare for any potential impacts, as the new US customs tariff may pose challenges for Omani exporters.

Emmee Haun, Managing Partner of the Oman Trade Office in the United States, pointed out that continued benefits from the free trade agreement between the Sultanate of Oman and the United States give Omani exports a margin of competitiveness compared to other countries, which constitutes an important element in mitigating the effects of the new customs tariffs.

Michael Ford, CEO of Tradebridge Consulting, emphasized the need for Omani institutions and companies to monitor developments in customs tariffs and verify customs tariff codes and country of origin to ensure maximum benefit from the exemptions and facilities available under the free trade agreement.
