HONG KONG : Han, a veteran of the tech giant since 1988, was widely credited for his visionary leadership that propelled Samsung’s visual display division to global prominence.
In the wake of his death, Jun Young-hyun, who was appointed as co-CEO in November 2023, will now serve as the sole CEO of the South Korean electronics powerhouse.
Han led both the digital appliances division and the device experience unit, overseeing flagship products like Samsung’s mobile phones and home appliances. Rising through the ranks, he became head of product research and development in the visual display division in 2011 and took on the CEO role in 2022.

Han was instrumental in Samsung’s LED TV revolution, helping to establish the brand as a global leader in high-end television technology. His efforts earned him widespread respect across the industry and within Samsung, where he was seen as a pivotal force behind the company’s dominance in consumer electronics.
Although not a member of the Samsung family, Han was a key figure in the company’s leadership during a critical era. Samsung Electronics, the crown jewel of South Korea’s largest conglomerate, remains under the stewardship of Lee Jae-yong, its third-generation executive chairman.
