WASHINGTON: Trump told reporters aboard his presidential aircraft while travelling from New Jersey to Washington that the talks were scheduled to take place later on Monday, but he did not disclose the location of the negotiations, their expected duration, or the parties involved.

The US president said the military had cancelled preparations for a new wave of strikes against Iran at the last minute, after allied countries informed him that a potential agreement appeared to be close.

Trump added that Iran had also indicated its willingness to reach an agreement, which influenced his decision to halt the planned attacks.

The United States and Iran had agreed in mid-June on a framework intended to end the conflict that began in late February.

However, Iran has not so far issued any confirmation that a deal is imminent or that a new agreement is close to being reached.
