MUSCAT: More than RO 11 million were disbursed to over 100,000 cases as social assistance benefits in 2024, the Ministry of Social Development said on Wednesday.

This was announced during the annual media briefing by the Ministry. According to the ministry a total of RO 11,968,546 were distributed to 102,167 cases.

“Many families, especially those laid off from work, face a challenge in fulfilling financial obligations to banks and others, and the Ministry intervenes to protect the family and there are quick solutions carried out by the Ministry and negotiations are taking place with the concerned authorities to reduce the amount and refer some cases to charitable societies,” said Her Excellency Laila bint Ahmed bin Awad Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development.
