MUSCAT : The event, which will run until March 11, is a collaborative effort between the Environment Authority and the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU). It aims to enhance environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices among community members, in line with Oman Vision 2040.

The event has been organised in conjunction with the celebration of the World Zero Waste Day, which is observed on March 30 of each year, following its adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14, 2022.

Eng. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kalbani, Director General of Environmental Affairs at the Environment Authority, stated that Oman’s interest in ensuring safety, combating pollution and preserving ecosystems comes within the framework of sustainable development goals through the issuance of policies, strategies, laws and regulations in various environmental fields. This includes integrated waste management and recycling, which culminated in making environmental sustainability one of the pillars of Oman Vision 2040.

He added that the Environment Authority’s organisation of the Zero Waste event reflects its commitment to enhancing environmental awareness in the community, and seeking to highlight the role of individuals and institutions in reducing waste and promoting a culture of recycling to achieve a more sustainable environment.

The event is focused on reducing waste, promoting recycling, and encouraging environmental innovation through exhibitions, workshops, student and community initiatives.

It is worth noting that the Zero Waste event is attended by a number of governmental and private entities, including Be’ah and Vodafone, in addition to a number of academic institutions and youth initiatives, with the aim of enhancing joint efforts towards achieving sustainable development.
