MUSCAT : The Ministry stated that individuals engaging in such activities without proper authorisation face serious legal consequences, including imprisonment and fines.

The Ministry highlighted Articles 299 and 300 of the Omani Penal Code, which explicitly address unauthorized fundraising.

Article 299 states that individuals who solicit donations or collect money from the public without a valid license from the competent authority can face imprisonment for up to three months, a fine ranging from RO 200 to 600, or both. The court may also seize any funds obtained through such unauthorized actions. For repeat offenders, the penalty can be doubled.

Article 300 of the Penal Code underscores the consequences for those who collect money and send it outside of Oman, with penalties including imprisonment for up to one year and fines ranging from RO 1,000 to 2,000. The court also retains the authority to confiscate these funds.

The Ministry stressed that these penalties aim to protect the public and ensure that charitable activities are conducted in a transparent and regulated manner.
